The content of EHCPs and the relevance of Annual Review meetings is vital to the education of pupils with SEND. To provide a comprehensive service to pupils, schools will be offered training and advice on the general issues as well as support at specific meetings. 

Training and Advice

In relation to Annual Reviews:

  • Purpose of the school meeting
  • Necessity of amendments to EHCPs
  • Timescales that apply to the Local Authorities
  • Parental appeal rights

School specific information materials for parents in advance of Annual Review meetings can be produced.

Support at Review Meetings

  • Attendance at ‘important’ Review meetings
    those related to ‘phase transfers’, related to placement decisions at ages 11, 16 and 19, and any meetings prompted by other changes of placement, whether initiated by parent or school.
  • Information and advice about the content of EHCPs
    to ensure that Section B (needs) and Section F (provision) are up to date and accurate, so that Section I (placement) is clearly indicated.
  • Pre-meeting support for parents in advance of phase transfer Reviews
  • Updating of pupil profile information to better inform future placements
  • Support for schools with preparation of Annual Review Reports
  • Liaison with Local Authorities in relation to making decisions within statutory timescales
